What You Should Know To Tint the Windows of your Homes


Window Tinting is happening and people are applying it to increase the look of their homes. It is one of the most economical ways to boost energy efficiency, safety and even increase the look of the home and that too without replacing the windows.


It is a process of applying thin laminate film to windows which you can fit towards the interior as well as the exterior portion of the window depending on how it is used.  The window tint is created from Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) which is a thermoplastic polymer resin. It is offered as a darkened window and comes in different grades, colours, shades, and thicknesses. There are mainly three types of window films each of which offers different benefits

 

Solar Films: These are used if you want to prevent UV rays to infiltrate in your home. These films are not very thick neither thin and absorb 99 percent of UV rays from the sun. These films also regulate indoor temperature so rooms can stay cool in summer and warm during winter. These films also protect the fading of interior furnishings, increase indoor comfort and is very energy saving. This film is also generally sold in neutral tones preferrable silver or copper.


Security Films: If you want to protect your home from extensive storm damage or deter the burglars to enter your premises, install security film. It is one of the thickest films. Many security films do not absorb or reflect much heat. In case there is a storm or any intrusion that can cause damage to the window, these films prevent the window from getting shattered and reduce the chance of damage.


Decorative Type:  As the film is thin, decorative window film absorbs or reflect minimal heat. It is applied to increase the beauty of your home and to retain privacy. It is clear and of bold colour which comes in a variety of etched patterns like stripes, stained glass, opaque frosted designs that keep out peering eyes.


You cannot use all type of window films with all types of window glass

As different types of window films absorb different degrees of heat, so some windows can handle easily and which some not. Many security and decorative films reduce minimal heat and thus does not place much stress on the windows. You can apply all these types of films to all the types of window glasses- annealed, which is known as basic flat glass, heat-treated (annealed glass that you expose to high temperature), and insulating which constitutes two layers of glass which has an intervening layer of air or gas, having minimal risk of damage to the window glass. But it is highly recommended to avoid apply solar film in certain types of windows. It is always better to check the manufacturers to find out the type of window film which is best for you.
